Ponderings...
What's it all about?...
Dear Fellow Hikers,
I’m back out on my writers path again, and again it feels good. A couple years ago we were visiting friends out in Colorado. I had started a conversation about my new Life Hike Letters project and was seeking input. My buddy Doug, a frequent reader (and commentator) of my stuff, didn’t hesitate to share some advice. “Keep it short.” I made a comment or two about that not really being my plan, because I’ve got a lot to say. He replied with “Keep it short!” I followed with more to say about my perspective. His reply… “Keep it short!!!”… The conversation continued back and forth a bit… and well… this one’s for you Doug…
Here’s a prayer by Thomas Merton that’s been a source of my pondering for many years now and has consistently been an ongoing inspiration for our ministry work.
“My Lord God, I have no idea where I am going. I do not see the road ahead of me. I cannot know for certain where it will end. Nor do I really know myself, and the fact that I think that I am following your will does not mean that I am actually doing so. But I believe that the desire to please you does in fact please you. And I hope I have that desire in all that I am doing. I hope that I will never do anything apart from that desire. And I know that if I do this you will lead me by the right road, though I may know nothing about it. Therefore will I trust you always, though I may seem to be lost and in the shadow of death. I will not fear, for you are ever with me, and you will never leave me to face my perils alone.”
So, what is today’s Ponderings… letter all about? It’s about the two highlighted statements above. Words that struck me with a new perspective. My desire is that before I share my thoughts, I’d like you to do some pondering on how these two statements strike you?
That being said, that’s all I have to say… for now… more to come!
With Care, Dan
